Grand Prix World 1998: The Tyrell Challenge Part 33

Open the gates: The 2001 Monaco and Canadian GPs

Welcome back to the Tyrell Challenge. We got our first car upgrade and it ... well, we didn't really get to see how good our upgrade was thanks to a rain affected race, plus said rain not letting run our strategy correctly. We are going to have a pair of races here, but only one in an actual race track. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, we can do things right here at Monaco. But first, the performance chart.

Arrows, Ferrari and Williams bring upgrades for Canada. Still, we are very, very, VERY close to the front runners. We will have another upgrade on France, so we might turn the Top 5 into a Top 6.

Yes. 2 Poles for Tyrell. Really rate that. I expect more.

Uh huh, the Monaco street circuit. Extremely slow, bumpy as all hell, and very, very difficult to pass. That means qualifying is critical. Alternatively, track position is critical as well.

Simple, full "Dust", as that improves pace, defensive and overtaking abilities, plus less mistakes which we really can't afford at THIS track.

I decided to run split strategies on the guys. Diniz, our number 1, on soft tires. Heidfeld on hards. A P3 on Softs is good. Realistically, we are a 6th-8th place team, tho (Remember, AIs only use Hard tires). This does give me some hope, BTW, that after our next upgrade we'll be fighting for poles/wins more consistently.

I hate you, Minardi. Also, yes, I forgot the weather. It was dry all the way, don't worry.

Simple 2 stop we want to extend. We can't really extend it too much, car gets heavy, but this SHOULD be all right.

A simple 1 stop. I'd like to extend it more, F1 Challenge style where the typical 1 stop pits you at lap 50-60, but this game doesn't work like that.

Yup, yup, P2. Also, look at the time splits, the Hakkinen, Diniz and Coulthard group was a train. Diniz got 2nd on the run down to the line. Best believe that. As for Nick, the map not only got his first ever World Championship Point, he got 2 of them. And he beat Villeneuve for the privileges.

Of course, Barrichello with the assist, as his car broke down on the closing laps to elevate Nick from 5th to 6th. Thanks Rubens.

Hakkinen v Schumacher for the infinieth time. That said ... 3rd and 4th tho. Nick >> Damon confirmed, BTW. No, reliability has NOTHING to do with this. Quiet!

The big 2 are getting away though. That said ... we have the 6th best car, and we are 3rd. Hell, yeah.

Big news, friend. We have signed a 2 year deal with Gauloises. Yes, Gauloises Tyrell.

As stated before, Quick Nick to the points.

The first news article is all kinds of cursed. The second one ... yup, Ferrari. So Italian Number 1 driver and THE Italian engine. This was not planned. Ford would have been the call but ... FORD

Look who is coming back!

Good for you Esteban. Young man has been just fine.

Benetton Auto Gears ... I don't mind.

That's good to know, let's check it out.

That's the 02A Spec. I'll be modifying this thing to Full Power soon enough.

FIA, stop fooling around!

Better overtaking and defensive ability due to that improved Brakes Perfomance.

The 2002, our potential World Championship car, is looking good.

Good Test Day™

I did something fun. First, I remapped the 02A Spec. I had engine testing points thanks to not modifying the engine for a long time. Then I did testing and remapped that 02B spec to turn it into the 02C spec. Both 02B and 02C will arrive for the French GP.

Need to prepare those Wets in case Britain is a wet race which  ... can happen.

All Cars are properly fixed. Thanks Mechanics crew.

The Montreal Road Course is a pretty fun track. Brakes SUFFER around here, but my teams rarely damage their brakes, so I won't worry about them.

Instead, tons of "Dust" points for extra pace and attack/defense as usual. Hopefully the Suspension doesn't get damaged.

I decided to flip the tyre types for the guys. Nick on the Softs did a good job beating Hill (Ehem, Nick >> Damon!) and the other Ferrari. Diniz ... well, was alright. Do realize that Diniz, on "equal" ('roided) tires is just 6 tenths off of Hakkinen.

Hards on the Diniz machine. If we do things right, Diniz should hold up the field for Heidfeld and himself.

Quick Nick with a risky strat, a short first stint, followed by a longer 2nd and 3rd stints. The objective of the first stint is simple, jump the guys ahead and hold P1.

Look at Villeneuve winning his home GP. Nick to the podium now, clearly the 2 stop was the better strat ... though Diniz might have had something to do with it. Double points, significant points at that.

Prost washed.

Nick >>> Damon! Also, Diniz gains a bit on Hakkinen but ... now is tied for 4th in the WDC which ... fine. We'll go step by step. First, Jan.

Depending on whenever we'll have a "Silverstone split" and the size of the run we get down the 2nd half of the season, we could get close to McLaren.

Winfield Benetton ...

All good news, yeah.

Benetton, why?

Sauber ... TC ... I don't mind.

The best Suspension our guys can design. Next up, either Reliability or Brakes Performance.

There's our new upgrade. +5% for the car, we'll see next chapter what that means for our performance.

Good Test Day™

Slow Speed Understeer, so we'll burn the tires at slow speed tracks. Fortunately, every track ahead is fairly fast, so we won't be seriously affected.

ULTIMATE™ Wet Weather Tires.

That's it then. Soon enough (AKA, Weekend possibly) the next chapters will happen. We expect a big, big pair of races at Magny-Cours and Silverstone. Will we get them? Only one way to find out. See you then.
