Grand Prix World 1998: The Tyrell Challenge Part 32
You can't escape us: The 2001 San Marino and Spanish GPs
Welcome back to the Tyrell Challenge. Last time, Diniz had a solid pair of results, thanks to good strategy and changing conditions. That's without a car that performs as good as the Top 5. Nick is a work in progress, though. He's performed all right, but definitely needs to step up a bit more. Fortunately for us, an upgrade is coming.
Yup, our first Design upgrade has happened. We are very, VERY close to the Top 5. Maybe at Britain or Germany our performance will be equal to them. And at that point, we will smash the field ... except MSC because yeah.
The columns are slowly filling up. I love it.
Imola is fun. I'm still not sure that it would kill your brakes. We'll assume it does. We have significant tire wear issues on this track ... let's fix that.
So, full "Dust", some "Heat" to protect the brakes and engine, and a "Tarmac" point to help the tires.
Qualy went perfectly fine. Heidfeld hanging on to his teammate. We beat a McLaren, a Prost and a Sauber, plus both Benettons. I expect a decent result here.
Oh, Tora ...
The original plan was a 2 stop. However, we managed to change mid race. We ended up running a 1 stop ... just, just barely.
I don't think we have points had we stayed on the 2 stop. We were off the pace today. Another Jan win, dear lord.
Diniz is best of the rest ... despite Jacques Villeneuve being a Ferrari driver ... we could have a Frentzen 1999/Raikonnen 2003/Vettel 2009/Alonso 2012 in our hands.
Tyrell doing alright here. McLaren doing very, very well.
Scuderia Ferrari Mild Seven.
F you Castrol. Also, Diniz-Irvine for Williams, which means I am so, so upset because I expected them to resign MegaChin.
We'll check that in a minute.
'kay, this design is just about ready to be built.
Brakes Performance Upgrade for extra attack and defense.
FIA, let's not do this dance.
I don't know what we are boosting, but our car design next year will be goated.
After using the Research points I carried over, here's that upgrade. Extra 5% as usual.
Very good testing day as usual.
We went from High Speed oversteer, to High Speed understeer. Same component to fix.
Fully upgraded the Hards, which makes them the "Ultimate" Hard tires. We'll use these for Monaco.
And we finally have the "Ultimate" Fuel too.
Just juggling the cars here. We need more mechanics.
Mugen-Honda has an upgraded engine in the works. We'll get it soon enough.
Here's some reasons for optimism. High Range Chassis, and we got a boost. That means the game expects our chassis to be a good chassis. I'd love that.
Lovely, lovely España, right? Dusty AF track, which means we'll get a fantastic boost of performance thanks to the setup points. That said, engine might suffer a bit.
That understeer is causing extra tire wear, so "Tarmac" point. A "Heat" point for extra caution, and "Dust" as usual.
Do you think the upgrade worked? I think the upgrade worked. Nick just absolutely blowing out the field today.
Minardi ... I'm so upset.
Typical 2 stop. The AI 1 stop seems OP around here. I might, should, could have put someone on Hards and do a 1 stop.
Weather did us dirty today. It rained, got wet, so we had to go Inters. It then got dry, and we had to do half the race on a single set of Softs ... we couldn't extend them, so we had to stop once again. It did nothing to Diniz, but Heidfeld fell out of the points.
The top 2 looks normal. After that, it is a mess. Also, WTF Williams? You are supposed to be good now.
Yep, Tyrell P3 in the WCC. Uh huh.
Nick was OP on Saturday.
Soon enough Nick. Soon enough.
Of course it would be Prost ...
Electronics Performance Upgrade
Good Test Day, etc.
Resilience isn't that big of a deal on wet weather tires, so these Inters are "Ultimate" Inters pretty much.
Finally managed to clean up all of the cars. Finally! Everyone is on their correct car too. We are, however, running low on spare parts.
That's it for this chapter. I'm looking forward to Monaco, as we tend to be solid there, plus last lap DNFs and all that. There is a pretty significant set of news on the next chapter. That will have to wait some time, however. I'll update when I can and have the time to. See you then.
