The Decision and the Fightback: The 2001 Brazilian and Argentinean GPs
(I've F'ing done it again! Sorry Argentina)
Welcome back to the Tyrell Challenge. Last time we had a ... middling performance. With so many teams being so quick, it would be difficult for us to put a great result right away. This could change on this very chapter, as we'll get our Remapped Mugen-Honda PUs, with tons of Power.
The Performance Chart for the day. Those big boosts? Engine Power improvements.
The Decision has been made. I'll soon show you who the Tyrell number 1 driver will be. It will happen in this chapter. NOW we can talk about the news.
Oh, chill out.
Nope, it won't be The Ralf.
Dear Lord Minardi, WHY?! Also, we have a new Commercial Manager, Yves Lambert leaving isn't a concern.
Minardi ...
Brazil, I like this track, both for driving and for managing. If you can be conservative yet maintain pace, you can get great results. There's also the threat of rain, which can flip any race. Unfortunately, rain will turn Heidfeld into a dud. Diniz, however, is a solid wet weather driver. We can pay the price.
Simple, "Dust" for overall improvement, "Heat" for Engine/Tire Heat durability, "Rain" for Rain.
OK, we'll be running split strategies today. Nick on the Hards, and maybe he can help Diniz, who is on the Softs, by holding a part of the field. Nick will 1 stop, Diniz will 2 stop.
There was some rain, but most put their lap time at the right time, on the dry. We did 1 run. We tried to do a second run, but we couldn't even complete the outlap before it got wet.
Minardi.
... ok, this will be a 1 car effort.
I'm hoping it rains for a while. I'm hoping we can go to our respective tires when (and if) it gets dry. Heidfeld has the longer strat. He can one stop this. Diniz has the more basic strat, as he might have to 2 stop it anyway.
Diniz did a spectacular job on the wet. Nick ... did what he could. This is the problem with Free Agents and Test Drivers, their ratings are trash for 2-3 years. I think Nick is the best of those kind of drivers. Prost ... Prost GP ... Damon Hill was well in position to win this. Welp ...
... was is the keyword. Rubens decided to join his teammate soon enough. The Chin and The Mika took each other out, the Jordans took themselves out.
We are coming.
We are hungry. Also, 6 teams with points, which is the exact same amount as last year. It only took us 2 races.
Typical Rubens-Interlagos heartbreak (I'm sorry)
So ... it won't be Mika Salo, man's going to Sauber.
That's our new Commercial Manager. We signed Phillips, a Level 5 Chief, for THREE years! Now ... generally that isn't a good idea for Commercial Managers, because they'll take some of the money of the deals they sign. However ... I have something planned. In other news ... Tora ... Tora, man ...
Arrows running TC. Let them be.
... Minardi ...
That Clutch reliability upgrade means everything is at least Level 3, which is perfect. Now ... Suspension ...
Thanks you, FIA.
Reduced the size of our Testing plan. We are still getting tons of useful points ... Engine is going to be useful when/if Mugen-Honda give us an upgraded Spec.
We will have a 04A Spec of Shell fuel. Quite balanced. Engine will like it, I'm sure.
We probably won't use it until ... I don't know, Spa, but we need to have that Wet Weather tire ready for when we must. 02A Spec coming soon.
Still unable to use Cars 2 and 3. Car 4 it will be.
Look at that F'ing Soft. LOOK AT IT!
At some point I should see the 1998 race ... or any race that took place in this track. This seems entertaining, if a bit difficult to pass fools.
With no real concerns about rain or reliability, I can focus on "Dust" for maximum performance.
Did you expect that? I did not. The Softs, plus the full power Mugen-Honda, are giving us great performance. At least qualifying pace. Our car isn't ... that good in race pace I think.
Minardi ...
Different strategies once again. Diniz gets the more standard strat. Nick gets a short first stint, then a long middle stint. I want to see Nick show off some pace today.
Nick did show pace, but he got stuck in traffic. He eventually had a monster final stint until he was 7th. Then he was in a bubble, as Nakano was a bit too quick to get into passing range. Diniz had a solid race, he was ... well, he had leader pace at times. The Prost were quicker but ...
Prost moment. Also ... Minardi ... Don't ask me what Villeneuve was up to.
Soon enough, Nick will score points. Diniz is holding on to P4 nicely. Backup will arrive Pedro, hold on.
They are getting away in the WCC, but ... I'm not worried. I hope we get the Silverstone boost yet again.
6 digit income!
Nick, the car will evolve, don't worry. Johnny to Arrows is a thing which ... alright.
Here's the big news. The Decision: Giancarlo Fisichella to Tyrell confirmed. I considered David Coulthard, but there was no way he was leaving Williams, now that he whipped it into shape. Fisico was on a transitional contract with Arrows and was the perfect choice. That said ... I did try to make a push for The Ralf ... got swipped up. I considered Mika Salo but his ratings (OVERTAKING) weren't ... ideal.
Of course ... I could have gone DC had I known that Pedro is moving to F'ing Williams! Thanks for your service Pedro. Let's finish this season strong.
That Suspension Performance Upgrade will help with pace. Now ... Brakes to Level 4 Performance is next up.
Level 3 TC is good, says the FIA.
N I C E wear percentage on Car 4. We are back on the standard cars.
Fully maxed out Performance on the fuel. Yes, thank you.
Nearly Ultimate Hard tires. We will use these for Monaco ... well ... We will use an even better Spec of Hards for Monaco.
We did a very, VERY risky move here. There is only one Ferrari Works deal available. If we get it, happiness. If we don't, we'll have to quickly rush to Merc or Ford ... Ford.
Gauloises isn't offering the biggest contract of all Team Sponsors (That's West) but a 2 year deal means we can spend next year signing Suppliers and Cash sponsors. That's it for today. Next chapter we have Imola, where we could have a solid race with our current spec of Softs. Then we'll have Barcelona, where our first Car upgrade will hit. We expect to be even closer to the front pack soon. See you then.
