Not just yet: The 2000 Italian and European GPs
Welcome back to the Tyrell Challenge where ... the 2000 season got both more interesting and more boring. Boring because we already have a WDC and WCC. Interesting because we now have a Big 4 instead of a Big 3. Tyrell has arrived in force. Once again, Suzuka will be its own chapter with Charts to look at. I'm interested to see how the second half of this season went for us. But before that, we have 2 races to do. Performance chart up.
We have installed the final upgrade of the season and won't be bringing any more aero upgrades this season, so what you see is what we have. We might bring Driving Aids or Technology upgrades however. McLaren and Benetton do bring upgrades for Europe.
Hope you can trust your engine because the boot, Monza will kill it. Or your brakes. We will do our best to take care of the engine. Either compound of tire is perfectly safe to use around this track, Hards for us will do the trick.
I made a recent discovery: The "Dust" rating is goated. I'll try to use as many "Dust" points as I can, then round out the rest of the setup with "Rain" or "Heat" points, depending on what's needed. Here, we need "Heat", we must protect the engine.
Engines don't rate running on hot weather, but we can't do much.
Hard tire qualifying isn't as good as Soft Tire qualifying. Still a decent result ... do ... do not be concerned about The Michael being 1 sec faster than the rest. Ignore that.
Oh, Rubens.
Simple 1 stop, stretch if possible. With the Hards, we should be able to stretch it.
Michael Schumacher has been the protagonist (or deutarogonist at least) of many epic battles. MSC vs. Williams, namely Hill and Villeneuve. MSC vs. Coulthard, MSC vs. Hakkinen. MSC vs ... Pedro Diniz. Yes, this is a thing now.
Of course, Ferrari is still far superior to Tyrell, despite our most recent upgrade. Not only that, but MSC >>> Diniz by far. That said, Diniz was quicker than a bunch of people. Takagi got held in the pits, then in traffic. Man's unlucky. Sorry, Tora-san.
You know ... a decent set of 2 races and Diniz P2 could be a thing.
Same with this. We can possibly equal or outscore McLaren.
Sauber is now the defacto Ferrari Works team considering Scuderia Ferrari went Ford.
Sauber Traction Control and Williams Power Brakes. They aren't a threat to us ... I don't mind.
Benetton Auto Gears ARE a concern, but our Mechanics crew doesn't have time for that.
"Season's about to end, but we MUST upgrade the fuel mixture!", says Elf. Thanks but ... just 2 races ... we could have used this a while ago. I discovered that, yes, Fuel Performance increases car overall performance. I'll eventually make a post where I'll explain what each rating does, I'm doing a bit of research.
Oh, come on ... anyway, here's an example. Auto Gears increases performance AND increases Engine Reliability massively.
There are better things to upgrade, but I decided on Hydraulics. No big deal.
Good Test Day and so on and so forth.
With just 2 races to go, we don't need to fix the other cars. We have 3 2001-spec cars done. One remains.
Shell guaranteed deal for extra cash money is great. BTW, see those 2 advantages at the bottom? I'll carry those with me to 2001. They are going to help us get a Works Engine deal. My targets are Ferrari, Mercedes and Peugeot. Not Ford, I've trash talked Ford so much that I don't think they'll want to talk to us.
The Nurburgring GP layout. The second home track for the Schumachers. I expect The Michael to be strong around here, but if we can go 2-3, then great. I'd rate that.
"Dust" is goated, part 2. Threw in "Rain" points because these last 2 races tend to have a rain affected session.
At least not this session.
Aw, Ferrari 1-2. However, Tyrell 3-4! Rain happened by the end when everyone had a reasonable lap in, that's the reason why we did 9 Laps, not 12.
Basic 2 stop for Diniz. Stretch the first and second stints a bit for a shorter final stint.
Takagi will try to stretch the first stint a ton, then a standard 2nd and short 3rd.
Ow ... this ... this could be interesting. Rain. The Michael is off into the distance. No catching him, he too quick.
Time for some explaining because Takagi Tora-san won a f'ing GP. OK, remember that rain that was on the picture? It made the track wet, wet enough for Inters. Unfortunately, Diniz lost out because he had to do a full lap on dries on the wet track, Takagi could instantly jump and switch to Inters. Problem was, of course, that Takagi is bad in the wet. That made it a fight with Ferrari's Jacques Villeneuve ... at least, until it dried out. A switch to dries later, fight resumed ... a fight that Takagi lost because lack of defensive abilities ... until it got wet again, with 3 laps to go. Villeneuve pitted ... from the lead. That allowed Takagi to pass, and he just drove the remaining laps to claim an unlikely win. Diniz was being hunted down, but Villeneuve ran out of laps. Ladies and gentleman, this was a certified Ferrari moment!
This moment also brought to you by Ford, as MSC's engine went pop.
This wasn't supposed to be THE gift to Takagi, but it sure is A gift.
Yes, even when he DNFs, MSC is still better than the rest of the grid. Also, I disagree, we didn't crush the field, Villeneuve interfered.
... Prost ... you had Newey this year ... you do this ... and potentially ruin your 2001 car. Why?
Good, good, the regs be here. That's for the end of the next episode.
Thanks, thanks, but lucky we were.
Our final tech upgrade is a Throttle Performance Upgrade, for fuel efficiency.
After significant smashing on the Research bar, we got another edition of Automatic Gears ...
That gets rejected because F you.
Took you 16 races, but you finally supply us with Spec 02A Inters. Great. That's it for today's chapter. Next chapter, which might take a while to be published, will be the season ender, Suzuka. We'll look at the points standings, plus the statistical footprint left by the 6 best drivers of the season. See you then.
