Grand Prix World 1998: The Tyrell Challenge Part 23

Disappointment in good results: The 2000 Monaco and Canadian GPs

Welcome back to The Tyrell Challenge. There's some excitement around the team thanks to first upgrade. Soon enough, we'll get a Level 10 Power Engine which is also a small boost. We expect solid results today. First, let's take a look at the performance chart of the day.

Sauber is just about to be overtaken in the performance chart. They are, officially, a non factor after Canada. That Canada boost is the Power 10 Engine, BTW.

Aha! I knew I saw something. Ford added a point of Power to their engine. That'll help Williams, Jordan ... and Ferrari ... as if Ferrari needed more help.

The Monaco track. We've had great results around here, usually relying on DNFs ahead. I hope the same happens today. That extremely low Overtaking might be an issue, specially with our car.

That should help passing a bit. We need to navigate traffic around this track, this should make it easier.

Yeah ... Hard tires aren't as good in Qualifying. I could turn it into a 2 stop anyway but ... nah. Also, Sauber still washed.

Dear lord, Damon Hill needs to retire ...

1 Stop for the boys. Takagi will extend a bit more than Diniz, hoping to jump some people.

Where are my multiple DNFs?! Welp ... double points finish ... but we, clearly, were not on the pace today. For a while we held onto Double H but eventually McLaren speed took over. The Mika and Collard retired which moved us up to the points but ... heh ... we might not be ready yet.

4 DNFs ... just 4 DNFs.

Can anyone stop The Michael?

Still just 5 points teams.

Fortunately, there's no Cost Cap to breach in this time and age.

Oh, Stewart ... at least you don't perform good.

Welp ... our run of authorized Driving Aids was stopped. We must try again.

That new Undertray is progressing really, really well.

Next year's Chassis isn't ... going as fast as I wanted it to be. Despite the Level 5 facility. So, I adjusted the Design Department's priorities a bit. This is not optimal, however. We will see that in the next turn.

Yep, yep, yep. This would have failed had we gone Goodyear. Instead, we get a big time deal with the Japanese tire supplier.

Since we got a new and improved engine, we should consider using the thing, which is exactly what I'm going to do after significant remapping. No reason to use an engine that's low on power.

Fresh cars. I love it.

Yep, yep. Works Tire deals. That means there's more testing to do, but it also means more performance for us. Now all we need is that the FIA ask the suppliers to Downgrade the tires for this deal to be worth much, much more than it is right now.

Here's the most recent engine spec, the 01E. It wasn't the engine I actually wanted, we only made this one to allow the game to release the 02A and 01D specs. Because old glitchy game.

The Montreal circuit. I've always liked this track despite being monotonous. It's only issue is that it kills brakes, but I'm learning to control that. As for this here race? Well, I think multiple strats work here.

Points in "Grip" because pace. Points in "Surface" and "Wind" because the chassis be scuffed, point in "Braking" because brakes suffer.

Frentzen is so SLOW. Slow enough that he can be beaten by the Soft tire equipped Tyrell boys. To be fair, same with the Benetton boys. The Ferraris are unopposed in their dominance. This REALLY is Y2K.

Sauber is a non-factor: Exhibit A

THIS is the race trim engine, 01D Spec.

Here's the strat for the day.

Diniz was just not on it today. That, and him being held up by The Chin didn't help matters. But he couldn't hunt down Fisi. Still, points thanks to Benetton DNF'ing both cars on a single lap.

Again, few DNFs. And THREE of them on the same lap. Wow.

Fisi to the points now. 10 Drivers out of 22 have scored points which ... I guess is alright. Competitiveness!

Jordan is now Classified. Last of the Classified teams, but Classified.

OK, now the design is actually picking up. Good.

And that's more reliability. Not that we REALLY needed. But it helps.

... Concern. We didn't complete the Model Design phase completely. And after force complete the Wind Tunnel phase ...

4% Improvement. Not 5%. It is a round number now but ... well, what can you do. What's next?

Another good Test Day thanks to all the cash money we have.

High Drag then. The expected result (Low Top Speed and Acceleration) is dealt with by the team automatically ... as they'll automatically use a higher engine mode, which increases Fuel Consumption and Engine Heat. Fortunately, this is one of the least troubling Car issues, as a good engine can counter it.

Goodyear finally deployed that 02A Spec of Wet Weather tires. We might get to use that ... soonish. Depends on Britain, Spa and the final 2.

At least the Mechanics Department is doing a solid job.

That's 2 cash sponsors signed. My favorite deal is the S. Olvier one ... simply because it is a 2 year deal and I don't have to worry about having to deal with that sponsors slot for another year.

I ... kinda expected a bit more out of this pair of races. I have to remember, the Top 3 are far, far away from us ... and I will inmediatly get hyped again, since we brought another upgrade package for France. We always struggle in France though ... we'll see. See you there, at Magny Cours. No, I haven't forgotten about Britain!
