Grand Prix World 1998: The Tyrell Challenge Part 15

Hidden Potential: The 1999 Austrian and German GPs

Welcome back. After a short break, back to The Tyrell Challenge. We are doing ... a bit better overall than planned. That's good, good for 3rd in the WCC which ... wow. Anyway, let's continue. We have a tough race and a easier race up ahead.

Stewart and Ferrari will upgrade for Germany, other than that the grid will remain static.

Austria ... as a track, I like the A1 Ring. However, it is one of those "hard" tracks, tracks where the AI has an advantage over the player for fuel reason. It is more notable with a race winning caliber car though. Just know that most tracks with a lap count over 70 are what I call "hard" tracks.

Bit of "Grip", bit of "Overtake" for this here event.

Just here to note that Panis is still injured ... or maybe he was permanently replaced? I'm betting on still injured.

Hmmm ... this was on Softs ... that's not good.

This race was ... not good, good. We still have that top 10 finish streak, which is great. Points were not a thing. Takagi got trapped in the pits and overall we didn't have good pace.

No comments on the championship standings to prevent jinxing ... actually, a comment, our P3 position is ... concerning.

Smol profit.

West ... Stewart ... ???

Oh, stop that!

Back at the Factory, we are getting closer and closer to finalizing the new chassis design. Considering our current personnel, I expect the car to be closer or around 60% handling rating, which is a car that should points every race and perhaps fluke its way to a win.

I love the fact we can do testing with near impunity. BTW, notice we got an odd amount of set up points. Someone will get a better set up. That one will be Diniz because he's been the number 1 all year.

Perfect look on the cars. Let's proceed.

The old Hockemheimring, effectively an Oval for F1 cars. Engines, brakes and low handling cars suffer around here. This is one of two "easy" track. The player ... you could say has an advantage here compared to the AIs. If we EVER are going to fluke into a win, it'll be here.

So, here's Diniz' setup. 2 of Heat, 1 of Grip and 1 of Wind. Takagi's setup is similar except he doesn't have that extra Wind point.

Excellent Pedro! Both guys are on the Softs. We can still 1 stop this race. Starting in the points is a solid way to kick things off.

Of course ... Tora ruins everything because ... yeah. BTW, did you notice? The Tosser has qualified for 2 straight races! Congrats!

Oh, big F. Throw away that 1 stop plan, we won't be using it anytime soon.

Guess who had a good start? Diniz. Guess who had a bad start? Takagi. If Takagi has at least a decent start, he finishes 4th. Instead, he got trapped in traffic. Still, double points are good points. The usual happened, The Michael destroyed the field, The Mika barely kept up. BTW, disappointing race from Villeneuve.

Nice ... nice standings. BTW, I am disturbed that Diniz is THAT close to Villeneuve and Frentzen.

Equally nice standings.

Hmmm ... not ideal.

Oh, look, Panis be back.

Oh ... oh oh .. Ricardo, that makes things ... complex. I'll show you later.

Boss was Arrows' title sponsor. I said I was going to have my revenge.

Odd set up points again ...

The perfect chassis design should be done right after the Hungaroring. We will take a hit in terms of cash during the building process, but we have plenty of cash.

Car 2 is not fully fixed, so time to deploy Car 4.

This marks the first time in team history where we enter a GP weekend with a full arsenal of spare parts. The Engineering department is on an absolute roll.

And, to make things better for our future, Red Bull will pay us $19.08m per year at the bare minimum. It doesn't matter if they are very unhappy with use, they'll call the entirety of the deal no matter what.

Finally, and this is something I forgot to do last time, we need to check how the paddock is looking. Driver lineups are done except ... there are a few issues.

Included the Speed rating, since the AI's use that for negotiations and rating. So ... Williams and Ferrari are the issue here. In game, no one hired Mika and Michael for ... reasons. Like I mentioned a while before, those two I froze on their spot until next year, so some rearranging must be done. This is what I ended up with. I think it is ... fine ... AI will have complete control over their destiny next year, though. If they elect to not sign Michael and Mika ... well ... so be it.

As for the Department Managers, take a look. Prost will have the best TD next year, which means their 2001 car will be VERY good. Ferrari ... well, Ferrari blew it by hiring a level 2 TD. Maybe they'll luck into a good car ... but they could have been the kings of F1 after 2001. Us, well ... we are perfectly fine.

Next, the toughest race on the calendar and the random number generator that is the Spa and its weather. See you then.
