Change of Fates: The Hungarian and Belgian GPs
Welcome back. Last time, we scored another point. AS TYRELL, THE BACKMARKERS! There's another GP where we could have a similar fate, but that requires a Formula 1 car, not the Formula 3000 we've running the last couple of rounds. We hope that changes in ... 2 or 3 years. Anyway, next up we have a track known for low wear and a track where the 1 stop, soft tire strategy is a possibility, let's get going.
Minardi brought ANOTHER upgrade. Minardi! Doesn't matter. We need to keep finding ways to beat them.
GoodYear FINALLY give us a set of upgraded Intermediate tires. We'll put them to good use ... if ... if it rains at some point. It's better than the Partnet/Customer Bridgestones, as I'll show you later.
The Hungaroring, in it's old, pre 2003(?) configuration. A very dusty track that punishes low handling cars, hard to pass, very low speed and very bumpy. Engines suffer around here too, as they are easy to overheat. That said, they rarely explode. Reliability isn't a concern, driver stamina is.
STOP THE COUNT!!
In terms of strategy, I'm giving the Tosser a 3 stop on Softs, while Takagi gets a 2 stop on Hards. Tire wear can get severe in this track.
Top 10 Finishes for both Tyrell and Minardi ... are not the biggest story of the weekend. You might notice someone's missing. 2 people in fact.
ReLiAbIlItY iSn'T a CoNcErN. I mean, it isn't unless you want to go with 2005 level reliability. McLaren, what have you done?! Also, lol Jordan.
... What has that done to the points standings? Let the AAR begin:
Share sells giving us cash! This chapter will hold the last Share sell ... possibly of the whole playthrough.
The Michael is now in striking distance of CRT TV Man!
Remember when I said McLaren had this pretty much wrapped up? Good times those ...
Ehhh ... Takagi is all in with this project, why the media keeps doing this?
Silly fools. Also, Sauber decided to embrace their Ferrari roots.
Ooooh. JPM to Benetton.
We are running out of time, we need to get that chassis ready. Fortunately, it'll be a fairly decent chassis. Will get us as many points as this year's did I think.
After this race, I'll have to patch up the cars for Italy and the Nurburgring-Japan stint.
Here's something notable. Look at the Merc engine's code. MBZ - V1098MC - 02A. This means it is a Mercedes Benz engine, a V10 engine of 1998 specification, designed by McLaren, the 2nd specification, an upgrade to be exact. Similarly, the Peugeot engine is an upgrade made by Prost themselves. The Ferrari engine, however, is an upgrade made by Ferrari, the engine supplier, not Ferrari, the team. That's why the engine has an XX designation. We will be exploring this in more detail when (I can confirm this is a when) we get an Engine/Tire/Fuel Works deal.
I definitely took these at the correct time. C O R R E C T.
The legendary Spa-Francorchamps. Harsh on the brakes (a surprise actually), many elevation changes and somewhat hard on low handling cars. This is the other race where we can do a 1 stop, Soft tire strategy and we'll do so. Spa is also known for a pretty aggressive, random weather.
McMerc front row lock out, the Michael 4th. The fight up there is getting more interesting than our survival I think. Do remember, Tyrell is not a contender. We are more than that. We are protagonists.
That ... isn't ideal. I wanted the guys to do a 4th run, but rain happened.
Cue The Michael/Damon Hill/Jean Alesi Destruction Derby 2.0.
I think ... this isn't what McLaren wanted or needed at this point. Eddie got the better strat today, but it's still a Ferrari 1-2 finish. DC where? Also, this isn't what we, Tyrell, wanted. There's a Minardi in the first screen!
Hmmm ... I don't think that's what you need as a championship contender McLaren. WHY?! Anyway, pace was not good today, even on the softs. Rain didn't help either.
Time for the AAR. The top spots are a mess are sure.
That's bad. Can't do much about that until the "Wind Tunnel" phase is over, hiring a Wind Tunnel costs money.
3 points ... 3 points from P1 to P2. The Mika is still in it, but needs a miracle. Eddie could still win it but The Michael is better, so it looks like a straight up fight between The Chin and The Michael.
Last time I said something about winning, a meteor hit these standings. I'm not doing it again.
Idiots at McMerc. IDIOTS!
Hey ... hey, media, that's my job!
... Ferrari ... I guess every protagonist needs an antagonist. We got B E E F with Team Maranello now.
I mean, if you want to stay with the explody engine, go ahead Minardi F1.
Jason Watt ... alright ... Error 404 on you, sorry. I do know some Watts, but they aren't race car drivers.
I'll get my revenge on the media. I keep answering them in Coach speak.
So, we got another sponsor in the form of Serra Systems. We probably won't get another sponsor, as we have just 3 rounds to contact them, negotiate and sign them. That's a bit ... too little, but I'll do what we can.
The final share sell of the series, price didn't go as up as I wanted it to go. No problem, don't matter.
I'll leave the Chassis design for one more round. Then construction will proceed.
That's it for this chapter. 2 more to go this season, and then we can begin 1999, hopefully we can make it there with decent cash.
