Grand Prix World 1998: The Tyrell Challenge Part 7

A light in the dark: The Austrian and German GPs

Hello again. Slowly losing ownership boi here, and that won't stop until we reach the end of the year. Still on Europe fortunately, so cheap travels are a thing. What's not cheap is our staff. There will be ANOTHER 5% share sell at the end. Hopefully prices move up. Let's get going.

The performance chart for the day. Minardi brought an upgrade package, they might bring another one. Benetton are well above Williams, Jordan are well above Sauber at Germany.

A well rounded track, a bit hard in terms of passing. It is fairly easy on the car, which is good for us.

Hard tires for the boys, which ... I think you can see from the lap times.

A Mika win! The impossible! Also, Michael can't buy a win to save his life.

Ford ... sigh ... I give up. I've run out of insults.

Race went ... find for us. DNFs helped us a bit, though the Stewarts were a bit annoying. I want to move on from this race as it left me sad, and the next race generally makes me happy.

DC might be champ ...

McLaren will be champ.

That's a good start for the AAR. But, share sells.

I'm not happy either, don't worry, we won't use those things anymore. Also, "giving up" implies trying, which we really didn't.

OH! Benetton Works deal ... for tyres, yeah, but WORKS.

OK, I won't be showing the cash sponsor signings because ... let's be honest, cash sponsors aren't that big anyway.

Yup, that's our Team Sponsor signing right there.

Calm down people!

Ok, what's going on behind the scenes? Let's look:

That's ... that's close to 0. Too close.

Patched up the cars well. Germany is known to damage the cars plenty.

Hart/Arrows made a buffed engine ... HART made an improved engine before Mecachrome!

Pics totally taken at the right moment. Definitely didn't forget to take them when I should have.

The old Hockemheimring, though I call it the Oval Hockehmheim. Average in everything but Speed, Brake Wear and Car Heat. We can't really push the cars a lot on this track. Weather will not be an issue.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the 2 race tracks where I can guarantee a good result for our team, at least based on our performance. As Tyrell, we could look at a Top 10 result, points if Luck helps us. The reason is strategy. We'll be using the Softs today.

LOL Benetton.

Soft giving us a good Qualy result. Since this race is 45 laps long, this is one of two races where the Soft tire can survive long enough to do a 1 stop strategy. We will be using that, 1 stop and take the advantage of track position.

YEEEEES!

LOL Williams.

OK, to explain the miracle that happened, most of te other teams trusted the 2 stop, but that strat isn't that quick around here. So the plan was to run the one stop and block until the end. It got pretty close, with Benetton's (Driving Aid buffed) Fisi and Arrows' Salo attacking The Tosser heavily. With a bit of help from Eddie Irvine, we survived. That's another point! YES!

As for those disqualified guys, FIA found Driving Aids. Simple as that.

OK, AAR now:

You'd believe, with the upgrades they have, Benetton would be ahead of Williams, but no.

If The Michael expects to make a championship out of this, he needs to start finding wins.

Extra share sells incoming! Few races left. We should be fine.

Damn right he did.

You two fools.

I'm so sorry, Prost.

Oh, ok. Technical regs. Let's take a look.

So, for teams that developed the green tick components, they'll get to use them for next season. If they are good, they remain good. If they are bad, they remain bad. On the red X components, the team will build new components with random performance.

Let's take a look behind the scenes:

Take a look at this. Benetton made their driving aid, the one that got Wurz banned, legal for the next race. They could have waited a bit and got the aid legalized, but no, no, why would you?

Chassis development is flying now, though we'll only get a low-mid chassis anyway.

Prices didn't improve. It doesn't matter.

OH! Elf gave us a bonus. Now they'll pay us for using their Fuel! That's great.

That's it for this chapter. Next up, Hungary and the 2nd race where we could score points if the ... heh ... if the MOONS align.
